Adamas Love
I discovered what love is, by learning what it is not
Endlessly shoveling for the treasure, my heart began to rot
Before I felt love’s beauty, I was drugged with it’s wrath
I fell asleep romanced, and woke up in a deadly warpath
Coldness does not exist, only a lack of heat
Just as the absence of true love, turns the heart to sleet
But when I found the one, all warmth was restored
For the ice melted, and for once, I was adored
Love is patient, love is kind, it's as endless as the Bible states
Written in one Corinthians chapter three, verses four through eight
Love is like a diamond, derived from “adamas” in Greek
This means it is unbreakable, yet precious and unique
Humans were created to love, to be self-giving and pure
But when we are self-seeking, love cannot endure
Some treat love unkindly, and use it as a source of manipulation
Though in its truest form, love is unprecedented liberation
To love is one thing, and to be loved is another
But what is truly special, is when two love each other
I gave my heart to him, and he gave his to me
Fully understanding, that we each hold love’s key
He kisses me softly, and his gentle touch chills my spine
He whispers in my ear, and our hands intertwine
He doesn't push for more, instead he holds me close
He looks into my eyes and smiles, then pecks me on the nose
There are days I go through hardships, days I grow weak
He looks into my eyes, lifts me up, not needing to speak
Other days I’m joyful, I am fearless, elated, and young
And that's when candied words, dance off his tongue
At night we fold our hands to pray, thanking God for all He’s done
My love has tears in his eyes, I can see them under the midnight sun
I hear him swallow slowly, then take a deep breath
Into the night he whispers, “I will love you until death”
I tell him, “I discovered what love is, I don't care what it's not
I searched the earth for treasure, then I met you in the parking lot”
As I fall asleep, love’s beauty engulfs me, lighting up my heart
“You are my sunshine,” I say, “and Because I Love You, I’ll never depart”
