Addiction
Conscious of your actions you ignite the flame that feeds your addiction
Leaning against the wall standing in the shadows, shameless
As you inhale its poison, satisfying your craving
I crouch in a corner in desperation trying to ignore the reality
You exhale its fumes, unaware as it steals your desire to care
And I sit alone, in panic of releasing my tears and anger I’ve tried to suppress for so long
You’re blind to my pain, unaware that I’m watching you that I know
You don’t look to see my messages of distress hidden in the smoke of your weakness
Out of the corner of my eye a loose tear falls, mixing with your leftover ashes
As easily as the wind carries away the evidence of your secret, you lose my trust and ability to forgive
Within your lungs you hold the last of it, numbing your conscience with the pleasure of your addiction
And with the flick of your fingers you release the remains and walk away, fading into the light
But in the darkness of the corner I sit confined, immobilized as I watch your destruction
Powerless to save you from the self-inflicted damage of your addiction
