Adolescents

Fat or skinny

Natural or permed

Black or white

Mixed or not

Light skinned or dark skinned

"Rich' or "poor"

Acceptance is all that we long for.

Pressures from teachers, parents, and even peers,

We're so young but are expected to act like adults.

Tell me how we've been alive for only 18 years, but we're supposed to choose a career for a lifetime.

We are young!

Although we may seem so old,

We work hard not knowing what our futures hold.

Late nights and early mornings, aiming to satisfy the unsatisfied,

Because acceptance is all that we long for.

We stress and procrastinate, we even forget,

We mess up, make mistakes, but in the end, nobody's perfect.

So you see? We're just teens, young adults, adolescents,

Haven't you figured it out by now, all we long for is acceptance!
