Adonis/Abu karim

Today some eloquent dawn has summoned me here;

the menstruating sun plays with the flesh of green paddy.

On the dense deep water of the ditch

there floats duck weed like anemone.

Today the crimson sunlight has originated from my blood.

Tearing asunder the pastoral green, a path is lying like a python.

A boat comes out from the bend of a canal,

like a bright moon peeping out of clouds,

you look out for a moment removing the gunny veil of the awning.

With the movement of the boat there appear ripples

over the surface of water,

mild sounds around,

and my heart feels melody of a besotted cymbal.

I had seen you last on your wedding day

in the robe of bride having a green sari

resembling tender lemon leaves,

and the stream of your deep black hair streaming down

on your bosom from both sides keeping your face at the middle

as if a newly originated strip of sandy land.

Today who has got up with the obeisance of the sun,

with  the eulogy of birds?

Which eloquent dawn has summoned me here?

October 1971
