Adult at Last

I’m walking down the aisle as

My parents sit and wait,

Watching me from front row seats.

It’s time I graduate.

I have on me a cap and gown,

There’s music in the air.

I go and walk upon the stage.

My parents’ eyes? They tear.

With my diploma in my hand,

I reflect upon my past,

And think about how this moment

Snuck up on me so fast.

When I first started high school,

I was shy and knew not much.

But as those four years passed,

I learned how to get in touch

With my feelings and my thoughts,

And what I’d want to do

When high school ended, and I’d have

To go to a new school.

At first, I didn’t know exactly

What path I would take.

I knew I enjoyed science,

And the things I’d try to make.

After a class in high school,

Namely AP Physics 1,

I finally found a passion,

Something I thought was fun.

So there I stood upon the stage

Thinking of the past.

It was time that I grew up.

I was an adult at last.
