Adults Make Salad

When you make salad

With the same ingredients

Every single night

For your parents

You don’t always think

Cutting off carrot tops

Symbolizes the end

Of your childhood

When you make salad

With the same ingredients

Every single night

For your parents

You sometimes forget that

Most kids never do

The same thing

More than once

Because as a kid

You have to move around

From one thing

To the next

But living box-like

Prohibits child-like blossoming

So sit still

And make salad

That is the difference

Between adults and children:

Children are flowers

Adults make salad

Now I am grown

I won’t take wild things

And make them

Something they’re not
