The Adventurer

The net brings the fish to the murky surface

floating around your feet.

Shoot down the waterfall with your fisheye lense.

Follow me through these flashy green trees,

away from the heart stealers,

and far enough to find those they call the scar healers.

Roam, roam, roam,

until you can only see the trees reflect in his blood-shot eyes.

Walk to the edge of the hilltop to feel alive,

watch all the sheep walk in circles all their lives.

Run as fast as you can until you trip over your own two feet,

with the sky spinning as you lay in his arms,

on the dirt path to my seamed up heart.

Smooth the water drops off of the cheeks of your lover,

and bring the remains to the store.

Hold his hands like they’re threaded together

so you don’t lose him in the gift shop down the street.

Remember that he loves the antique malls as much as you

and drag him to the one on the corner of your first kiss.

Have the boy take pictures along the way because you

don’t want to miss the memories when they should fade.

Fade, fade, fade into the soil of the earth.

Jump into the deep seas where my heart wants to be,

and pick at it until I feel you once again.

Let us run into the fields of frustration,

and throw away our sins.

I will take us on a road trip to Arizona,

where we will start and end our lives together.

The destination will be familiar but not to you,

since I was once a little girl in the beaming sun,

while you were stuck in this black hole of a run-

down city with no pretty lights.

You line my insides like charcoal,

and you act as if I’m art.

I have the burnt edge and peeling tape,

yet you call me your prize.

I am a queen with my throne of lies,

while you are the king of my heart.

Bring the acid rain onto my land,

let it burn through the dirty ground I once stood on.

It should leave us to take on the world together,

sweeping our hearts back into their places as they were before.
