The Adventures of Laundry

From the tumble of machinery

the damp clothes

roll and twist into themselves.

Take them out

and insert them into the mouth

of another

while smelling the aroma

of newly cleaned cotton

reminding me of a sterilized room

but not strong

not like a hospital

but like a brand new rocket.

Pull the sheet of netting

from the others cinched to the one

and drop it into the stomach

where it will complete its duty

of keeping fabrics on track

guiding the clothes

like a rocket GPS

to the destination of

comfort.

Click the door closed

like a rocket hatch

heading to space for another adventure.

Press “start”

and hear the noise

of the rocket preparing for its journey

a fresh beginning

of clothes getting ready for the next wear

and another odyssey.
