Aeneis


desolate 

alone 

a vastness all around, 

as wind whips and roars 

and there is nothing, 

no friends, no family, 

alone, 

alone. 

waves dance and spin 

waves rush and murmur 

waves far under the empty gray sky 

where Aeneis journeys alone. 

this place is deadly. 

it is inhabited by predators, 

it itself may be called a foe

and in it one may become lost for many years. 

the ocean?, you ask 

I tell thee, no

T’is wheat-drowned Kansas
