Affording the Future

Affording the Future

Dirt on the soles of my feet

Going to school just so I can eat,

Provided with two meals per day…

Just enough to get by,

Hoping tomorrow I will have the reason as to “Why?”

Red rain boots squeaking through the aisle

Taking the window seat with a smile,

Blowing a kiss to my dad…

The last kiss he ever caught,

Leaving my mom and I utterly distraught

Shoe laces tied tight

Uniform aligned just right,

Both my parents work two jobs…

Just to send me here,

Knowing one day our assets may disappear

Put yourself in someone else’s shoes,

Nobody has the power to choose…

Affordability for college

Lead to debt overriding knowledge,

When the average annual income is fifty grand…

It is time for America to take a stand!
