After the Storm

I've been this way forever

Long as I can remember

And everything I've done I've done

Because I am this way

Because I'm born from tragedy

Fire and calamity

And for the longest time I

Thought that I would always fall

But that aching in my heart

The bitter happiness apart from

Everyone and everything

That has ever put me down

Has kept my fingers aching

For this pencil to be making

All the beauty and the madness

That my mind always creates

And though that alcoholic father

Never saw his little daughter

Mother, soldier, fought for me

So I could come back home

And though my memories will shake me

From the man who thought could take me

I will be forever fighting

Like my mother told me to

Because although my heart is fragile

Nothing ever can dismantle

All the strength I've built

from being tossed up in the storm

Born and raised in tragedy

But I will never fall, you see

'Cuz I am stronger from my scars

And my head is in the stars

And I will live and love and write

And die with a smile on my face
