After the Storms

I was unsure of myself. I always questioned my looks

Cared much about what others would think or say,

But if there is anything to take away from High School

It’s to think the opposite of how I used to feel.

At times I feel like a boat in the ocean.

The tide calm one moment and the next the waves lashing out.

Having gone through many stormy nights, all that’s needed are

Improvements to help it survive the next storm.

These struggles are the ones that build up my character:

Genuine, caring, sensitive, emotional, kind, and driven.

I value the friends that stick by me at my worst of times and

The deep conversations I can have with them.

I hold onto the precious moments in life, but also learn from experiences.

And through this journey it is safe to say that I have grown

Into a more understanding and mature person.

Still awaiting years of self- discovery, today I am free.

(To the island, I would take experience and self- love).
