Ain't No Mountain High
One day I swear I'll fly away,
Become superman and save the day.
The world is not in shades of grey,
Don't listen to what they all say,
The world is beautiful and grand.
It has so much wonder at its command.
On one hand, a gorilla, strong and proud,
Then a crowd of people, loud and excited,
Ready for fireworks to be ignited.
Life and community, people in unity,
Celebrating with impunity.
But as we dig deeper, we find estranged sons,
Living away from their families, wielding guns.
They are stolen in the night and taught to fight,
And nobody will listen to their plight.
As we try to find our place on this earth,
So many other struggle with birth,
Because their mother lost their brother,
And doesn't want to suffer the loss of another.
Of her children who will die senselessly,
In a war that grows immensely larger every day.
Even as we enjoy our life in the city,
The waste that we make ain't pretty,
And it pours out from our pipes,
Pollutes lakes and wipes out life.
I wish I had the power to change these strange
Problems people can't fix by themselves.
I wish peace were an option that was easy to take.
I wish an increase in cation for the sake,
Of the environment would slake the thirst
For expansion, before the dams burst.
I wish we put others first!
I wish a lot of things...
One day I swear I'll fly away,
Become superman and save the day.
