Air Plant
The air plant you gave me died today.
Or maybe it was yesterday, I was never very good at keeping time
Or keeping things alive for that matter
Tulips are my favorite flowers so delicate and beautiful
I can’t seem to keep those alive either
But I have a fish,
He’s been mine for about 7 weeks now,
And I’m hoping that he sticks around
Cause I don’t want to lose another thing
I’m always misplacing my rings..and other jewelry
This is why I can’t have nice things
It’s also why having you is so scary at times
Because even though in my heart I know that you’re mine
I can’t keep track of my possessions
So I get a tiny bit obsessive when it comes to having you here
My love, I’m filled with fear.
Fear you won’t want me one day
Fear that you won’t fight for me to stay
So I try my hardest not to push you away
I can’t let another thing die.
If I must keep something alive I want it to be you
I want it to be us
So buy me another plant,
I promise to try to keep it this time.
