For Alexis

Violin bows and orchestra concerts,
Textbooks, yearbooks, pens and pencils;
We went to the same school,
went through life side by side,
We walked through the same halls and
Sat at the same lunch tables
Talking, laughing, joking.
You knew me, I knew you,
I'd say we were friends.

Our middle school crew didn't last forever,
Our high school years flew by in a flash,
But who would've thought your life would end?
It doesn't seem fair, it doesn't seem right.
We all carry on, but you've disappeared.

Sadness, longing, confusion and regret
Fill up the hearts of those that knew you.
As we try to work through our hearts-
filled with this emotional mess-
We hold onto the image of a great young woman,
a wonderful friend.

Its hard for my mind to grasp,
Its hard for my heart to handle,
The idea that you're not here.
But I know your spirit is
Ascending into a wonderful eternal world.
I know you'll always be around
In our thoughts and minds and hearts.

I know that the life you lived
Had Value, had a meaning.
I know that there are people who love you,
I know there are those of us who care.
I hope you can find peace amidst your new life.
I hope you can find satisfaction in your old.
I hope you know
That we love you.
