Alice's Trip
They’ll tell you I hit my head
But I promise I fell down that hole;
I was not at all filled with dread
For the world I fell into wasn’t dull.
This rabbit in a tux pulled me to a tree
His running made me trail him
Though he never said “follow me.”
I knew going with him wouldn’t be dim.
The rabbit dove into the gap in the roots
And I leaned in hoping to find something new
But oddly enough there was only fruit
As well as some bottles of bright blue.
The bottles had pictures of animals on them.
I opened them up to find small tablets,
“Eat Me” was written on the brim
So I popped one and it tasted like crumpets;
All the world fell away
And I fell deeper and deeper into Wonderland,
White roses passed by with a sway,
While a caterpillar smoked something bland.
Three sunflowers with faces smiled at me –
A woman wearing hearts and a crown looked furious
At another woman wearing all white who seemed free
Because she held in her hand something that made me curious.
I began to tremble and the woman in white gave me a pill
“No, no” I told her while my body was shaking.
“Just one will stop the quivering and give you free will!”
The pill hit my hand and the world started spinning.
“Don’t you feel better, my love?”
The white queen stroked my hair with a gentle touch;
In all honesty, I felt like I was flying like a dove.
The pill was acting as a guide and as my crutch.
A man in a hat poured me some tea,
While a hare stood and smoked a pipe.
Everything was spinning around me;
I could hardly control my stomach from gripe.
It was all too much for me to handle,
“Where is the white rabbit? I must get back!”
I asked the queen of hearts who seemed baleful;
She glared and took me by my arm with a thwack.
The queen dragged me through white roses
As this Wonderland continued to spin.
We finally reached the tree surrounded by bushes,
The queen of hearts pushed me into the hole and I hit my chin.
The Wonderland faded and there were bottles all around;
Pills and liquids were scattered near my feet.
There was the tree above me and my body was on the ground.
I wasn’t able to move but Wonderland had tasted so sweet.
