Alive As You
I am the tree that stands
tall, strong and limber,
Standing alone on an open knoll exposed to the elements, am I not alive as you?,
Warmed by the sun, fed from the earth, dancing in the rain, shed of my cover
and blanketed with ice and snow upon my skin, still am I not alive as you?,
My inner core is of tightly wound fibers in rings of age and experience,
Am I not alive as you?,
I too need water and nutrient to grow and cast shadows upon you for shade,
getting abused by the elements of heat, wind, cold and rain,
Do I not provide warmth when my very being is getting burned only after becoming of axe and hacked into pieces?, Am I not alive as you?,
Do I not provide my core and limbs for shelter from the elements for you?,
I will continue to stand tall, strong and limber,
For I know that it is you that need me, more than I need you.
