Of All

Of all times I dreamed about the day I’d let you go, Of all the words I thought I’d say in each scenario, Of all the hundred thousand times I thought that I’d be ready, Of all the times I thought I’d smile, and my words would come out steady, Of all the times in all my life I’ve ever been a fool, Of all the times I’ve stuttered, of all the times I’ve lost my cool, Of all the times I’ve raised my fist and questioned my God “why?” None compare but that one moment when I had to say goodbye. Of all the things I could have said as I watched it end I stood back in silence, and you fell through my hands. Of all the things that I have loved but that I could not have None have cut me quite so deep, or so left my heart in half. Four months have come, four months have gone, and still I feel the same Bearing scars upon my heart that surely spell your name. If only time could be rewound and idle words erased If only I could travel back and all my fears be faced. If only I had had the nerve to tell you how I feel Perhaps I would not stand here wounded praying to be healed. If only I had courage then but now I pay the cost For every chance I let slip by, for every chance I lost. But now I know as I knew then that you could not be mine So there’s no use in changing words, or going back in time. But I’d have crossed the world for you a thousand times and back And I hope you know how much I care, I hope that you know that. Of all the ten and hundred times I’ve tried to write these words Of all the hundred thousand times I’ve simply lost the nerve Of all the times I’ve ever lied, my tongue holds not but truth so there’s only one thing left to say, and that is: I love you.
