All in a Day at High School

All in a day at high school

Arachne, spinning circles around Athena in every way

Volunteering at homes for the elderly

Teaching knitting, sewing, and crochet

Spending every spare penny on crafting supplies

President of multiple clubs

Selling items on Etsy

Saving money only to spend it all over again

Couldn’t care less about grades

All in a day at high school

Athena, protecting those in need

Punishing all who deserve it

Her father’s favorite child

Receiving whatever she desires

Intrigued by history class

Amused by stories of war and past battles

Spending time in metalworking and woodshop

Ready to save the world

Always preparing for the worst

All in a day at high school

Artemis, ignoring the advice of all

Lover of animals

Honoring sacred creatures

Fiercely punishing those who act against her beliefs

Only going out at night

Armed and ready for defense

Falling asleep in math class

Dreaming of her closest friends,

The creatures

The night

The wild

All in a day at high school

Aphrodite, wearing only the most fashionable clothes

Hair swishing in perfect rhythm behind her

Flashing a fake smile at all times

Perfectly spaced, pearly white teeth adorning the mouth

That speaks only words

Of poison

Of hatred

Of revenge

One pound of makeup should be enough

To cover up

The insecurities of this fashion mogul

Shoving aside students in the halls

Never glancing twice at people of less importance

It all suits her well

All in a day at high school

Hephaestus, parading along besides Lady Aphrodite

Wearing a cut-off shirt

Three sizes too small

To emphasize his stature

Because all that he lacks in brains

Is made up for in brawn

Working in his father’s metal shop all summer

Bringing home a sterling silver pendant for his girlfriend

At the beck and call of his lady, always

No attention paid to grades

Working hard enough in school

Just to get by

D’s scattered over a crumpled report card

Sitting in the cafeteria trash bin

All in a day at high school

Dionysus, recklessly attending parties

Supplying beverages on every occasion

Sleeping every morning

Only waking up

To roll into class

His only excuse for tardiness,

A sleepy grin

And a half-hearted shrug

Making fun of teachers

Ready for a break

Busily planning his next outing for the night

Eavesdropping on conversations

Focused on absorbing others’ opinions

Everything about him,

His hair

His clothes

His life

All in a day at high school

All of our characters

Living their lives

Focused only on their own futures

Intertwined by what they consider a prison,

The dreaded building where they must learn

How to continue along their paths

Making mistakes

Changing the tide

Altering every outcome

All in a day at high school
