All Grown Up
“Our little girl is growing up”
my Mother said of me.
As I took first steps away from her
and waddled to Daddy’s knees
He picked me up and tossed me high
‘Til I giggled and squealed with glee,
“Our little girl is growing up”,
My Daddy said of me.
“Our little girl is growing up”
Mom said on the first day of school
New friends await my parents said
but remember the Golden Rule.
“I will, I will” as I fled the car,
I wanted to appear so cool.
“Our little girl is growing up”
Dad said as he pulled from the school.
“Our little girl is growing up”
Dad said , when I asked for a bike.
“Oh no,” said he, “you’ll ride in the street
and you’re just a little tyke”
“I’ll be careful”, I promised him
“I’ll only ride to friends I like”
“Our little girl is growing up”
Mom said, when we picked out my bike.
“Our little girl is growing up”
Dad said when I learned how to drive
My mother worried, my father prayed,
“How will the car survive?”
I practiced and listened to all they taught
‘Til they said, “Just come home alive”
“Our little girl is growing up”
Mom said as I pulled out the drive.
Their little girl is all grown up,
Off to college to become a vet.
When they left me at school,
“With don’t worry, don’t fret,
Be kind, study hard and smile”
Softly with tears I said, “I won’t forget”
But now I’m alone in my room with my books
and the many new friends that I’ve met.
Their little girl is all grown up,
but not ready to leave home yet.
