All Grown Up(?)
I was a high-school freshman
freshly single, emotionally messy.
Then I was a sophomore
more-or-less, and I thought I'd found my Bessie.
Junior year rolled by
dropping off responsibilities.
Finally, it was senior year.
I learned about tax liabilities.
Had I grown up already?

I was a college freshman
working for fuel, food, education.
Then I was a sophomore,
struggling with socialization.
Was this adulthood?

Something fragile broke apart
between me and my high-school sweetheart.
School and work fill my summer
but my life is not a bummer.
I live at home
working hard on this poem.
I am content with my life,
with the ease and the strife.
I am happy to be all grown up.
