All I Ever Knew
I sit in the first seat because my last name starts with "A"
But I'll sit in the back by the end of the day.
They don't have patience for ADHD.
They'd rather segregate, it's back of the class with me.
They don't care about my issue of attention.
They just wanna know if I can serve my detention.
And I work for that 4.0 day and night.
I'm pretty sure the way I sleep, I'm cutting years off my life.
The homework is hard enough but on the days of the test,
Everyone's stressed enough to go into cardiac arrest.
And every teacher acts like they're the only one who exists.
Don't they know the class periods are numbered one through six.
They always seem to act as if I've got nothing but time,
But with all my extracurriculars I won't be done 'til after nine.
Just in case ya didn't know, by the way I'm gay.
I'm always trying to forget, but I'm reminded every day.
The kids swing their sticks. The kids throw their stones,
And teachers just remind that I stand alone.
I've got my friends but they're not always enough.
If you're my teacher, you need teach me to stand up.
Disapproval everywhere from my peers and my fam.
Sometimes I'd just rather die than be who I am.
You're supposed to be a hero, teaching is what you do.
But all you do is sit back and let it happen too.
I could say I've learned a lot. Rather than get involved,
You'd rather shut it all out, call it a problem solved.
That's all they ever taught me. That's all I ever knew.
I just hope that one day, a teacher will teach me something new.
