All I Have

I hide behind an image

it's me but then it's not

the person I am looking at

her self-esteem is shot

she hides behind the make up

her hair is done just right

but this isn't what I look like

on an average weekday night

I'm buried underneath the truth

I'm drowning in a sea

why can't I simply be myself

what do you want from me?

I'm afraid I'd lose you as my friend

I'm afraid I'd be alone

if I was myself today

if only I was known

but we can't hide forever

so I'll wash it all away

every bit of me will show

I'll take this stand today

well, here I am

it's only me

what do you think?

what do you see?

all along I've hid myself

for fear of what you'd say

but I can't do it anymore

I'm coming out today

do you want to be my friend

or do you want to go?

I wouldn't blame you either way

I just need to know

I don't have much to offer

I'm average, can't you see?

all I really have to give you

well, all I have is me

I am committed to my growth as an individual. My family and friends are my core and my utmost contentment. I love to read books that make me laugh so hard I cry, and cry so hard I laugh. I strive for adventures that challenge who I am and lead me toward positive change. I have a hearty appetite for life.
