All I Need
I would like to say that all I need is you
Your breath is my breath
That our hearts beat as one
But I would be lying
You see the truth might be complicated in some instances
But this truth is simple
I don’t need you
I need myself.
And by self I mean soul
The part of me that is closed off from you and all others
Until I deem it open
I need my soul more than I need you
But surely without water I would wither and die?
Oxygen a necessity for life.
My possessions that I hold so dear
And you above all others. How can I live without you?
My soul will transcend all that I have in this world
The beauty of my body will fade
The words I recite forgotten
My place in this world taken by another
All this body needs is food and water
My person needs acceptance, companionship
But the amalgamation that is I
Needs my soul
Honestly can you imagine me,
Trapped on an island
Holding hands with you
Gazing into your eyes
With no soul?
