All I Need

All I Need

By Katrina Fronk

When the day was an eternity

The hours passed like painful years

Minutes stabbed liked knives

Into my heart

My mind

My soul

When I collapse onto my knees

The ground pricking my palms

Tears choking me

At the very moment when I’m finished

Giving up

Throwing in the towel

Buckling Under

Yielding

When I give my last desperate cry

It finally comes

I see a glimmer

I see a spark

A light at the end of the tunnel

Even though it is still so far away

I get back up

Even though I feel broken

Battered

Ruined

Shattered

I grit my teeth

Push

Pray

Punch

Sing

Sprint

Fight

Follow

Finish

And when I stand shakily on my feet

Dirty

Torn

Exhausted

I smile through the sweat

Because I know life’s not so bad

When you have something to look forward to

When you have hope
