All I Need

I'm bundled in the dressing room

Spraying back my hair,

I line my lips and pat on blush,

Showtime's almost here.

Meandering throughout the halls

I make it to the stage,

I take my place beside the barre

And begin with pliés.

I sweat my way throughout the class

And head into the wings,

I hear the "15 minutes!" call,

And now it all begins.

With dancers rushing all about

And costumes gripped in tow,

Hairspray hangs within the air

I am almost ready to go.

The curtain's closed the lights are dimmed

The overture is launched,

I take my place beside my friends

And stretch as something pops.

The show begins, I glide onstage,

Basking in the lights,

I dance with skill and artistry

It's been a flawless night.

In a world without a rest

We swirl from day to day,

But there's a peace unlike the rest

When I am at ballet.

In the drama we call life

We all must have escape,

And everyday I'm able to

Dance it all away.

Without ballet within my life

I never would know love,

It's been with me through everything

And it's what I'm proud of.

So stranded on deserted land

There is something I'd bring,

I'd have ballet along with me

And that's the only thing.
