All I Need
A thousand trinkets have I owned,
A thousand more I’m sure to find.
Yet happy as these make me feel,
They always pass away in time.
My laptop may be at my side
And humming onward, day and night.
Yet if it were to choke and die,
I know that soon, I’d be all right.
Yes, things are useful, fun, and nice,
But take them and I’ll still survive.
There is one thing I cannot lack—
Just one thing I need in my life.
The warmth of human feeling—
The closeness of a soul—
These feelings lift me to the stars
And make me feel complete and whole.
It’s human love I need to have;
Connection is a treasured thing.
Why bother living without friends
Or family who can make hearts sing?
I love the glow of friendship’s hearth
That gives as much as it can take.
I love the mutual trust of love,
Respect and honor in its wake.
It’s true, I love the human bond;
Towards company I’ll always strive.
For me, there’s meaning in that love—
That’s all I need to truly thrive.
