All That it Ever Was

All That it Ever Was

in brightly colored paints we wrote our names in the sky

best friends from the beginning

an inevitable bond

we dreamed together of growing up so quickly

being older and bigger and smarter but not bitter

phone calls are distant

communication is severed

I dread the thought of forgetting your voice

calling me solely for favors

but never to rejoice

I would say i’m disappointed

but it is no surprise

when idealistic youth

is forever in our skies
