All the Precious Things
Your swollen face is smiling, little boy on the streets,
Dodging traffic with your friends, cold gravel cuts your feet.
Who's rich and who's poor, you really don't care,
Right now you don't know that life is cruel and unfair.
Fear hides in your eyes little girl on the streets,
Begging for a coin in the winter cold and summer heat.
Mama yells, Papa's drunk, we all pass you by,
Nowhere to turn for this princess in rags.
Who decides the future and determines what will be?
Time keeps passing by, there's less and less for you and me.
This grinning young lad and forlorn little maid,
won't always be young and their innocence will fade.
This world is what we make it and tomorrow starts today,
for every precious thing in life there comes a price to pay.
