All of the Reasons to Say Goodbye

Dear Boyfriend,

Blindly, I fall, so deep in my feelings that I miss the signs.

What was once a fairytale has become a nightmare right in front of our eyes.

I love you, and I won’t leave, but I’m not the happiest I could be.

I know what I deserve, and this isn’t it.

You can’t walk all over me and pretend I don’t have feelings.

You don’t own me, and you don’t control me.

I’m tired of fighting; I’m tired of crying.

I just want what we once had.

Before all of the screaming and the cursing.

Before you thought you could talk to me like that.

Before you acted like I’m your inferior.

I am not inferior.

I am going to stand up for myself, whether you like it or not.

You can’t treat me like shit anymore.

Before you judge my actions, take a look at yourself.

I merely reflect how you treat me.

I am my own person, and I will think how I want.

I will not be a carbon copy of you.

I’m not perfect, but neither are you.

Take responsibility for what you say and do.

Don’t try to turn your shitty actions and inexcusable behaviors into my fault.

You’re different from what I knew.

You won’t get away with this any longer.

I’ve put up with too much of it.

I’m better than this, and I know what I deserve in life.

I do not deserve to be talked about, lied to, screamed at, and patronized.

I won’t let you make me feel small.

I will stick around, but only if you realize how full of shit you are.

I love you, don’t abuse that.

Even though it may be foolish, I’ve always played the fool.

I’ll blindly follow my heart.

Don’t make me look stupid.

Because even when you’ve given me so many reasons to leave,

I will always look for the one to stay.
