All The Poets Are Dead
It’s not something they tell you
It’s not something they teach you
except for when they do
but they also don’t
It’s a quiet lie, it doesn’t require words
just scorn
to tell you all about how
Poems are for children
Poems are for sad people who don’t want to be happy
Poems are for old people clinging to something long gone
Poems are for dramatic teenagers
Poems are for loners and losers
Poems aren't something people love
Poems aren’t something people write
not if they have Standards and Pride
Nobody ever says “I write poems”
not if they don’t want to get laughed out of the room
and probably off the Real World too
So we learn that all the poets are dead
But take heed Real World
That's a quiet lie, it doesn’t require truth
it doesn’t account for Us
