All Things Useless

Goregous.

Stunning.

She is beautiful

Yet utterly useless

Her silky blonde hair does not make up

For the lack of knowledge

Held in her perfectly shaped skull

And those aqua blue eyes

Won’t bump up her grades for college

Her exquisitely curved body

Will not land her the job interview

And the straightness of those shiny white teeth

Inside her pristine mouth

Are useless if the words coming out are too, useless

A like here

A like there

Likes are how we show satisfaction

Society approves of your latest Instagram post

The like button is an invention that is in fact beautiful

When others hit it, it gives us a sense of belonging

We now believe we are accepted

It is a beautiful thing to make others feel good

But this false sense of satisfaction

Means nothing if the one person we want

Doesn’t like it

Likes mean absolutely nothing

Completely useless

And placing our happiness in the hands of others

Is simply foolish

Words

Of course, words are beautiful

They drip off our tongue  like water

So free and easily

When put into magnificent poems

Written across Hallmark cards

Spoken to the ones we love, with love

But for the times when words cannot begin to describe our feelings

They have no use

There aren’t enough words in the world to string together

To describe how we feel at our best and worst moments
