All is Well

I'm new here and you can tell

I shuffle and try to sit alone

hoping against hope

no one tries to talk to me

It's a church

i've been going all my life

I shouldn't be so nervous

but the suits and skirts and dresses and ties

clash with my ragged flannel

 the smiling people

clash with my ragged self

The hymns start and there it is

peace

peace despite my looming anxieties

my debt

my fear

the baby puke on my shirt I didn't notice until it was too late

I'm glad i'm here

glad I found God again

in the people

of this church
