Almost
I open the dictionary
Look for words
That can convey
What I really want to say
They sit me down on a table
Sea green
Parchment paper
Like I'm a cookie
Ready to be baked
I look down at my hands
They tell me it's okay
That no answer is wrong
It's just that my test results are concerning
And they want to know
What's going on
I tell them I don't know
That not much is going on
I don't tell them
I feel like I have drowned
They look at me with kind eyes
Beautiful eyes that can't see through
All the darkness I am walking through
They click their pen
"All done!" they say,
"That's it, you're through!"
I tell them to have a good day
And I go on my way
I leave with a heavy heart
Another year I have to coast
Because I couldn't find the words
To say that I-
But I almost did
Almost.
