Almost Gone

I awoke in the morning,

an ordinary day it seemed,

as the sun arose and gleemed.

Rolling out of bed and onto my feet,

I glanced at the clock and saw 7:45

I threw on my clothes to  prepare to fleet,

but just before stopped at the foot of my parents bedroom door.

After turning the knob I began to sob,

for what I saw was too much to bare.

My eyes met my mothers body, limp on the bed

questions why? ran through my head.

Frozen with terror, I couldnt run to her, so I stood instead.

I built up the courage to feel for a beat,

but when I felt none I collapsed to my feet.

My hands shook as I dialed 911,

and I felt as if my mothers life was done.

It felt like hours before,

the police would show up at my front door.

I will never forget the terrors and immense pain I felt,

that seemed to create a horriffic emotional welt.
