alone
she is so used to nothing that it is almost a challenge,
a game now to see if anyone will even dare.
come on, come on are you brave enough
are you man enough
come on, try me
can you take it?
because maybe after so many lonely nights
she almost likes being alone,
she would resent or push out anyone who tried
to fill up the lonely space inside her heart.
but that rings false even to her,
and so she waits for someone to try but they
just never do.
what happens to someone after years of loneliness?
do they waste away to nothing
their hearts shriveled up underneath a soft facade of flesh and smiles?
does the word alone brand itself across their heart, their mind, their forehead
until they feel themselves rotten, dirty, unworthy?
does their ability to love gradually fade out of existence,
a vestigial organ with no real object?
why are we alone?
there are so many lonely people in the world.
but we are kept apart by stigma and hate and willfulness and
our own blind souls.
we dance the perpetual dance around each other and
we call it life. why?
