Alone

Wind blows dust in the cracks

Hides fear, hides the past

And wrinkles the night sky

So the stars grow like grass.

The flushed hourglass

Disguised by strange parallax

Always seems to distract

‘Till the sun drops like wax.

Stains of genesis, both ways

One by night, one by day

Holy water can’t bring life

To the dark renegade.

Every mind trick’s been played

Fools follow the masquerade

While I raise my barricade,

A loose hand on a grenade.

As I settle in daylight

And define black and white

I remember the bad guys

Are merely passing by.

And those eerie satellites

Fall to earth like meteorites

And their flames quickly die

But the planets survive.
