Alone

The day is dark, and cold as stone

I sit by my bedside, weary and alone

The pain that sleeps in my chest consumes me

The sorrow endeavors, and fails to free me

As I sit here, always alone

The deep, black night drives a hole in my heart

The chaos, confusion, has ripped me apart

The sadness threatens to take me with force

The soul I once had, filled with remorse

So I sit here, always alone

How easy it would be to leave in the night

To abandon promises, and accept the dying of the light

To save all the others, from my dangerous self

To leave what is nothing on the cold, broken shelf

Since I sit here, always alone

Alas, I can see now, there is no escape

From the monster inside that controls me

I look in the looking glass, it’s myself that I see

The angel of darkness, the imp of glee

Perhaps I was never alone
