Alone

Standing up for my beliefs,

Standing strong with my dreams.

Alone, am I, but that’s okay,

I know that feeling everyday.

I raise my chin defiantly,

Knowing I am worry-free.

When I rise above someday,

I’ll be loved, I hope, I pray.

Friendship should come easily,

But one that’s close, I disagree.

Faith, I beg, trust in me;

Help me, for love to see.

Know me for who I am,

Who I’ll be, what I can;

Don’t hate me for my shadow,

Or the dark that rests below.

Fragile is the real inside,

Courage; the mask where I hide.

Tears hidden, pain unseen,

Out of sight, behind a screen.

I keep my distance, trust is hard,

Binding up my broken heart.

I see the edge, I’m on the brink,

Going over, one thought I think:

The one friend I can afford,

The one who loves me without reward.

With no regret, undying love,

Is my Savior, Lord above.
