Alone

quick hands rip to naked
for our skin to skin embrace
but the oneness of our bodies

cannot cure the lonely
that is howling down the canyon
of our loving afterglow

it hides beneath the creaking bed
still with you in the crowded bar
leaned in to talk is smothered in its pillow

it is speaking from your lover's eyes
whose hands are holding on
to stop the falling back

return to hanging by your side
the distance of affection
more intimate than love

a cure cannot be found
within the soul that never leaps
they cast away in sight of their salvation
