ALONE

I sit in a crowed room full of family and friends.

Voices and music fill the room,

yet I sit alone surrounded by silence.

People walk and talk but words hit me like I’m a stone wall,

Then fall to the ground like snowflakes in a blizzard.

I beg to let them in

To reach the inner most parts of my mind.

Longing for the silence to be hushed.

To push the loneliness away with just one word.

Numb from the world would seem to be a blessing

but I yearn for the world to hit me like a bus.

Make me feel some kind of feeling,

To let me hear it’s car horns, it’s birds chirping,

it’s waves cresting on the shore, any kind of noise.

I beg for its wind the kiss my cheek, for the  rain to drench me in its cold wet grasp,

or for lightning to strike me in the heart and jump start my life into existence.

But I sit in a crowded room

full of family and friends....

alone
