Always Be There
Does it kill you, too, pretending not to know me?
Do you not want to acknowledge me
Or do I not want to acknowledge you?
We can go on denying it, but it will always be there.
I catch you staring at me today
When I look up, you look away
We can go on denying it, but it will always be there.
We laugh
Real laughing
Our hands touch, but neither of us pulls away
We can go on denying it, but it will always be there.
Sometimes you look at me and smile
I can’t help but to return my biggest, dorkiest smile
Sometimes, when we talk alone I just stop and grin
And you try not to smile
Do you see only me, too, when we grin like that?
I took care of you when you needed it
Do you remember today, the things you told me last night?
Seeing you upset kills me
Do you care about me, the way I care about you?
Today it was me who caught your eye and smiled
You laughed
And no one saw
But it was enough for us.
“Are you asking me for help?” I tease.
You smile and mumble
Of course I’ll help you.
Today it was me who asked for help
I bat my eyes
You try to hide your smile as you willingly oblige
We can go on denying it, but it will always be there.
Today we passed each other for the last time.
But this time, we held each other’s gaze
And everyone saw
We will go on denying it
But it will always be there.
