Always You

She said no

And he said why not

She said it couldn't be done

And he looked at her

Told her she had always been the one

The only one

She said it isn't enough

To heal the hurt

And he took her hand in his

Held her close

Breathed her in

And said when it came to his love for her

It was never enough

And always too much

She said let it go

And he said no

He took her face

Between his hands

And kissed her forehead

Even when she

Turned her cheek

Even when

She wanted to leave

Too scared to love him

He stood steady

He stood by her side

And she knew

He was worth her pride

Every wall she ever built

He was quickly knocking them down

She said she wasn't worth the trouble

And he gently smiled

And said no trouble at all

And suddenly she didn't feel invisible

And small

Suddenly everything before

Didn't mean anything

Nothing they couldn't handle

Together

And when he swore forever

She believed it

Even when she wanted to run

And even when he watched her

Come undone

He still stood there

His scent everywhere

On her skin

And she knew

It was always him

She said I love you

And he just smiled

And said I know

I was just waiting for you to see it

Like I had

Every day

And now

It's natural and easy

Effortless like the breeze

And she sleeps

Wrapped up in the arms

That have only ever made her feel safe

Loved and wanted

The only arms

That rocked her

When her world rocked around her

The only arms

That ever carried her

Rather then drag her down

He said marry me

And she said yes

And in a flowing summer dress

She met him

Down the line

And with her heart

Resting in her eyes

She took his hand in hers

And promised forever

And he smiled

And said

I was always waiting for you

To realize

It was always you
