AM

You are perfect in every single way.

I’m sorry, you were.

You were intelligent, athletic, worldly.

You were presidential.

Inspiring.

Attentive.

But

You

Were.

I AM.

I AM educated, strong, curious.

Playful.

I AM a thinker. A planer.

Possibility everywhere.

You were yesterday.

I AM today, tomorrow and forevermore.

I used to run to you,

And then I ran from you.

And how does that feel?

Enjoy watching me leagues ahead,

As the track star falls behind me,

A past.

A memory.

An end.
