Am I Normal?

She is her and I am me

For if you look close the differences you'll see

will lead you to know that we are 2 different people

whose bond is unbreakable our connection is fetal

she is the original and I am the sequel

Physically we are both dark as night

with almond eyes and teeth so bright

that people tease me to go light

and bleach my skin like that singer spice

I pray to God because despite

the hate they give I still like

My dark skin that glows in the light

A girl once said you're black as hell

I ran to my twin and began to yell

Am I that dark, it is hard to tell

I tried to hold them in but the tears then fell

Felt like I was thrown a spell

For it finally hit me

I would never be

The "normal" girl

What does normal mean?

This poem is about me as it is about you. It is about us all. We each fail to be the person who society imagines us to be. My dark skin is no flaw of mine, it is a gift from God that I have learned to love. Though it took me some time, I am proud to be a dark skin beautiful chocolate queen.
