Am i a poet?

Am I a poet?

the people of my life say

a poet needs to write for his audience

a silky smooth tone

like a lisp upon my lip

I've never spoken silky smooth

or written what they wanted him to

so am I a poet?

Look at the book in my hand

the way my sentences bleed thru the pages

do you see the black roses growing from my oily blood?

I idolize the words of Langston Hughes

The Harlem Jazz blues

these poets locked thier heart in leather covers

I do the same

What makes me so different from them?

I am 17 years old and am a novice story writer and poet. I have participated in a number of poetry slams before, and my poems always bring smiles to my listeners. I hope they bring a smile to your face as well.
