Am I Really That Fat?
(poems go here)
So I'm on a Manhattan-bound R train going to school, my school, ACTvF, the Academy for Careers in Television and Film located at 36-41 28th street but only until September when it moves away to another locale. But back to the story- I'm on the train, right? Leaning against one of the doors- I know, it's "illegal" but come on people, ain't nobody got time to be standing in the middle of a crowded train car when your stop comes. So I'm on the door and this big metal behemoth drudges into the station. It screeches to a stop and the doors are about to open, so I turn to allow more of my fellow commuters onto the train when suddenly this middle-aged white lady bumps into me quite hard. Her bony elbow digs deep into my robust stomach as she spitefully bellows "EXCUSE ME, I'M TRYING TO GET ON!" And at first, in my mind, I'm like, "Bitch! Just cause no one cares about yo wrinkly ass doesn't mean you can dig your arm in my tummy. I'm very sensitive there, bitch." Then, however, I realize: she had, like, a two foot wide clearance between me and this tall Caucasian businessman whose leaning on the adjacent door. He cleared the way too, but yet this White-girl-stil-skin had to maraud her way in. I rub my poor poor belly and think to myself: Am I really that fat? Cause the impatient sister that just barged in would probably say "yes you fat bastard, drop some of that baggage!" (Pause)
As you can imagine, my feelings are thoroughly hurt at this point. She called me a fat bastard and told me drop my baggage- that hurts! She pushed on the train and pushed on my feelings and I wasn't digging that! So I snapped. I called her a wrinkly grey-haired witch with breasts that sag to the floor. And I meant that shit! Little did I know, she had to push on because her husband just got sent to the hospital and needed to get there ASAP. I found out the hard way. I hung my head down in shame. As I retreat to my little niche, I start considering just stepping out of the train the next time a little old white lady needs to get on. It might save me a blow to the gut and a blow to my feelings, too.
