Amaryllis

Sweet Amaryllis,
my stunning
crimson flower,
pierces her heart
time and again
with prideful
determination
& a glinting,
gilded arrow.
How many nights
has she waited,
a smile playing
across her lips
& her breath
falling softly
upon my door
as her blood
& her tears
fell to her feet?
A love deeper
& stronger
than most
will know,
goes unrequited
for I had not
the eyes or
wits to see
the sparkling
splendor of she
who sought me.
