Amazon
I am a warrior.
But I don't cut, hurt, nor kill.
I can not fight until my muscles ache,
But I can fight until my spirit breaks.
I will fight for my father-
A hard worker
Someone who comes home 3AM from work
Just to provide for my family and me,
I will fight for my mother-
A feet-cleaner,
Who bends her back to cleanse and purify,
All the while dirtying her hands.
I will fight for my sister,
Who, after a single year, quit college.
Because we had no funds to support her.
Since then, my parents have become colder.
I will fight for myself,
Because the struggle and pain isn't over yet.
I plan to strike and travel till light,
Because the sun will rise even after it has set.
Sixteen years have I fought this battle,
And I will continue on until I triumph,
Until I taste the taste of victory,
Until I have found peace within me.
I am not a Greek myth.
Nor a legendary female warrior.
But I will put my heart on the battlefield.
Because I am a fighter-
Because I am,
an Amazon.
