America the Dead

Is it America the Great,

Or America the Dead?

We have so much on our plate,

And many tears to be shed.

America was once beautiful

In a land back in time.

When plants and trees were boutiful,

And our troops not in a line.

We have lost too many good soldiers

To the bloodshed of war.

From the bombing of Pearl Harbor,

To the crashing of the Twin Towers.

If America were so Great,

We would not live in fear.

Fear of nuclear war at our gate,

Or a politician with a sneer.

Americans live in a fantasy land

Where we are always safe.

We do not think of bodies in sand,

Or the heroes with no cape.

So I ask before it's too late,

And we permanently sleep in bed.

Is it America the Great,

Or America the Dead?
